How to Book the Correct Appointment
The clinic requires appointments and does not operate a general walk-in GP service. Standard visits are usually 15–20 minutes and are designed for one or two priority concerns.
| Patient need | Best first action | Important booking rule |
|---|---|---|
| Routine weekday GP visit | Use the official online booking page or phone | Prepare one or two priority concerns for a standard appointment. |
| Urgent concern today | Phone and ask to speak with a nurse | Explain when symptoms began and what has changed. |
| Several or complex concerns | Request a double appointment | A longer consultation may attract an additional fee. |
| Insurance medical or detailed form | Phone reception | Detailed forms may need a double appointment and separate report fee. |
| Saturday urgent or acute problem | Phone from 8:30am on Saturday | Appointments are made on the day, last 15 minutes and have higher fees. |
| Nurse clinic or injection | Phone reception | Nurse clinics operate by appointment on weekdays and Saturday mornings. |
| Respiratory symptoms | Phone before travelling | You may be directed to a separate consultation area. |
| Procedure, infusion or microsuction | Confirm preparation with reception | Assessment, materials or preparation may be required before treatment. |
Identify the main task
Decide whether the request is routine, urgent, nursing-related, respiratory, a procedure or an administrative form.
Choose online booking or phone
Use the current online route for suitable routine visits. Phone when urgency, location, preparation or appointment length is unclear.
Prioritise your concerns
List your most important issue first and ask for more time when a standard appointment will not be enough.
Confirm the site and likely fee
Ask whether to attend Parkvale Road or Karori Road and whether a Saturday, procedure, material or form charge applies.
“Kia ora, my main concern is ____. It began ____, and it is improving / unchanged / worsening. Is a standard appointment suitable, or should I book a longer, nurse, respiratory, procedure or Saturday acute appointment?”
Have ready when booking

- Register and provide consent before expecting full access.
- Use the official booking page rather than an old saved portal link.
- Phone reception if appointment or prescription options are missing.
- Complete urgent tasks before Manage My Health closes on 20 July.

New-Patient Enrolment
Karori Medical Centre’s official patient page and clinic-reviewed Healthpoint listing currently state that new-patient enrolments are open.
Start from the official enrolment page
Use the current online route or ask reception for help rather than downloading an unverified form.
Provide accurate documents
Prepare identity, contact, eligibility and previous-practice information before starting.
Watch for confirmation
The clinic says applicants will be contacted within 48 hours after their documentation is received.
Wait before using enrolled fees
Do not assume enrolment is complete until the clinic confirms acceptance and record setup.
Repeat Prescriptions and 12-Month Prescribing
Repeat medicine remains subject to clinical approval. A medicine prescribed previously may still require an appointment, monitoring test or annual review.
How to request a routine repeat
- Request at least two working days before medicine is needed.
- Use the active Well portal once registration is complete.
- Call 04 920 4562 and select the prescription option.
- Provide the medicine name, strength and dose.
- Name the pharmacy that should receive the prescription.
- Check the prescription when collecting medicine.
Published prescription charges
- Enrolled patient under 14: free
- Patient age 14–17: $28
- Adult portal request without CSC: $28
- Adult phone request without CSC: $33
- Standard CSC request: $15
- Urgent same-day non-CSC request: $39
- Urgent same-day CSC request: $20
Annual medicine review
The clinic says patients taking long-term medicines must see their GP at least once each year before repeat prescribing continues.
Who may receive a 12-month prescription?
From 1 February 2026, selected patients with stable long-term conditions may receive prescriptions lasting up to 12 months when the prescriber considers this safe.
Eligible patients still require a yearly in-person condition and medicine review. Pharmacies generally dispense no more than three months at a time, or six months for oral contraceptives, and repeats must be collected from the same pharmacy. Controlled-drug duration has not changed.

Adult ADHD Assessment Clinic
Karori Medical Centre introduced an adult ADHD assessment service in June 2026 for patients aged 18 or over who are enrolled at the practice.
Book an initial appointment with a KMC doctor
The GP decides whether an ADHD assessment appears appropriate and completes baseline medical checks. The usual GP consultation fee applies.
Complete the detailed history and questionnaires
Standardised questionnaires and background information are reviewed before the assessment consultation.
Attend the 90-minute video assessment
The assessment is completed with Dr Melissa Austen, who has additional adult-ADHD assessment and diagnosis training.
Attend required follow-up care
A diagnosis is not guaranteed. Confirmed cases require additional follow-up with an ADHD-trained nurse and Dr Austen.

$1,215 including the assessment and listed follow-up appointments.

$1,314. Payment is required before the assessment consultation.
2026 Influenza Vaccination
The clinic’s 2026 flu programme began on 1 April and recommends annual influenza vaccination for people aged over six months.

Travel Clinic and Official Pre-Travel Questionnaire
Karori Medical Centre is a certified Yellow Fever vaccination centre. A registered nurse or doctor reviews travel plans, health risks, prior vaccines and destination-specific recommendations.
Complete the questionnaire before an appointment is arranged
The official three-page questionnaire must be completed as fully as possible. A nurse reviews it before contacting the patient about an appointment.
Trip information requested
- Departure date and total trip length
- Countries in order of travel
- Transit countries
- Exact regions and city or rural stays
- Length of stay in each location
- Holiday, business, volunteer, medical or family travel
- Cruise, camping, backpacking, trekking, diving or safari plans
Health information requested

- Surgery, clotting or immune-system conditions
- Heart, lung, neurological, liver or kidney conditions
- Mental-health history
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or pregnancy planning
- Prescription, non-prescription and contraceptive medicine
How to submit the form
The PDF directs patients to return the completed questionnaire to mary.mccaffrey@kmc.co.nz. This is a specific travel-clinic instruction, unlike ordinary appointment requests, which the clinic does not accept by email.
Requests may be prioritised according to departure date and individual recommendations. Phone 04 920 4562 as well when the request is urgent.
Travel vaccines listed by the clinic
The clinic lists Yellow Fever, hepatitis A and B, typhoid, polio, rabies, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, meningococcal B and meningococcal ACWY vaccines.
Ear Microsuction: Five-Day Preparation
Registered nurses provide microsuction for ear wax and debris. The clinic describes the procedure as generally safe and effective when performed by a trained professional, but preparation is important.
Official preparation instructions
- Use room-temperature olive or other vegetable cooking oil.
- Prepare the ear daily for at least five days.
- Lie with the affected ear facing upwards.
- Gently pull the outer ear back and upwards.
- Apply two or three drops at the ear opening.
- Massage the skin at the entrance to the ear canal.
- Remain on your side for five to ten minutes.
- Repeat for the other ear if needed.
What the clinic says to avoid
- Do not insert a cotton bud into the ear canal.
- Avoid Waxsol, Cerumol or another softener unless the clinic advises it.
- Do not skip preparation when wax is likely to be difficult.
- Tell the nurse about an active outer-ear infection.
- Mention sensitive ears or surfer’s ear before treatment.
- A follow-up visit may be needed if wax cannot be removed.
What the procedure may feel like
The clinic says microsuction can feel unusual and sound loud. Firm or very soft wax, infection, sensitive ears and exostoses may make treatment less comfortable.
